Family-emergency scams
A criminal pretends to be a family member who urgently needs money.
Romance scams
Someone builds an online relationship and later requests financial assistance.
Investment scams
A person promises unusually high or guaranteed returns.
Prize and lottery scams
You are asked to pay a fee before receiving a supposed prize.
Employment scams
You are asked to receive or transfer money as part of a false job opportunity.
Loan-fee scams
You are asked to pay money before a loan can be released.
Impersonation scams
Someone pretends to represent a bank, government, police or payment company.
Safety guidance
- Confirm requests using a trusted telephone number
- Never share passwords or security codes
- Do not transfer money under pressure
- Do not allow another person to control your account
- Do not conceal the true purpose of a transfer
- Contact M-STB immediately if you suspect fraud
